Artist Statement:
Tadas Zaicikas (TedyZet)
My art is a fusion of raw emotion, bold expression, and narrative storytelling. Whether working on canvas or digitally, I embrace vibrant colors, exaggerated forms, and dynamic brushstrokes to create compositions that feel alive. My work is deeply influenced by neo-expressionism, street art, and graffiti, blending abstraction with figurative elements to capture energy, movement, and intensity.
At the core of my artistic approach is what I call "Narrative Expressionism"—a movement that bridges abstract expressionism with storytelling. I don’t just paint images; I create experiences. Animals and flowers frequently appear in my work, but they are not always immediately recognizable. I paint them in a more abstract, expressive way, inviting the viewer to engage, interpret, and uncover their essence. Through layered textures, fluid lines, and unexpected color combinations, my subjects emerge and dissolve, encouraging curiosity and personal connection.
Color is an essential part of my visual language. I use bold, bright colors to create a sense of dynamism, contrast, and emotional depth. My approach aligns with contemporary art, where color not only defines form but also conveys energy and meaning. Through electrifying hues and layered compositions, my paintings resonate with modern audiences, pushing the boundaries of both figurative and abstract expression.
Text plays a vital role in my paintings, with poetic phrases integrated into the composition to deepen the emotional impact. This combination of images and words invites viewers into a multi-layered dialogue, where each painting tells its own visual and literary story.
My artistic inspirations come from Basquiat, Keith Haring, and Damien Hirst, whose fearless creativity and bold visual language resonate with my approach. For my digital paintings, I find inspiration in David Hockney, whose pioneering work in digital art has expanded the possibilities of contemporary expression.
My creative process often begins with a digital drawing, which I use as a reference for my traditional paintings on canvas. This allows me to first explore composition, colors, and energy in a free-flowing way before translating it onto a physical surface. While the digital version serves as a blueprint, the final painting takes on a life of its own, enriched with textures, layers, and the spontaneity of traditional materials.
I work across both traditional and digital mediums, finding no boundary between the two. My hand-painted works incorporate acrylic, oil pastels, ink, spray paint, and charcoal on canvas, while my digital pieces are meticulously hand-drawn and printed as high-quality Giclée prints, often further enhanced by hand-applied details. No matter the medium, my goal remains the same—to evoke emotion, energy, and connection through color, form, and narrative.
Each painting is a reflection of my creative spontaneity and deep passion for expression. My work is not meant to be observed passively—it is meant to be felt, experienced, and interpreted in a way that is personal to every viewer.
