Artist Statement:
I think of my artworks as messages that have to contain a captivating visual material, a strong concept and an open field for thoughts. During the years my practice vary from 2D pieces, through relief, to sculpture in all sizes. Currently my focus is on small and medium size sculpture. Spending most of my time in London I am trying to reflect the aspect of the society and translate that to one more global and deeper meaning. Internet and the new technologies are my main source of ideas and provocations. It is an interesting challenge to observe the way our society communicates nowadays, how it's operating and what influence have the Internet technologies on the inner unconscious movements in human soul. In many people there is a perceptible feeling of urge and rush to be connected at all times, the life without computer looks unthinkable. This is the focal point in my art and the frame on which I building my artworks.
The structure of the computer, it's hardware with all electronic bits, keyboard, screen, the inner world of Internet, software, all the buttons and icons, pixels, Facebook - they all represent a rich gallery of symbols with strong physical presence. It is quite inspirational to use those tools, but for me it is not enough if leave them alone without adding a trace of human touch. I am always trying to relate the representative of the new with the archetypal, existential symbols of human identity.
I define the language in my artworks as figurative, but don't feel limits if different kind of approaching would help to determines the epistle of the work. The materials I use vary and I like to implement a new ones if the work requires or I'd like to make a sort of experiment that would lead to a series of new pieces. However the wood has proven as my favorite medium, and it is a challenge to turn something so traditional into independent contemporary piece. Therefore the color in my sculptures often plays a main role, it is another tool and gives different dimension to the competed sculptural form. The world of Internet is associated with aggressive and tempting, in a positive or negative way, colors. Florescent pink, yellow, orange, etc. are the instruments which I try to balance with the black and withe, exactly like the harmony I am looking for between current reality and the past layers of existence.
With the constant changes and development of the technologies and the devices I have my platform to respond with my art, but always strive to stay in touch with the human roots and symbols, as well as with the clear, eye catching, figurative approach.
