Artist Statement:
I am a South African born artist, raised and residing in Toronto, Canada. I am self-taught focused on mixed media and acrylic on canvas contemporary artwork.
Before the age of six, I was drawing on my bedroom walls. My first bout in my creative exploration. About a year after moving to Canada, my mother noticed some talent and placed me in art classes to see what would emerge. I was eight years old when I learned an array of traditional art techniques that ignited my passion for art. Being shy had no bearing on my studies as I had solely one mission during my classes - to allow my creativity to shine through. A couple years later, my art coach stopped teaching and I was unable to resonate with anyone who could fill her large shoes.
While my dreams of pursuing art as a successful career had slowly diminished, I used art to help me through difficult times. I used to struggle to admit to others that I was an artist as I never attended an art university or been awarded a fine arts degree. But art is a form of expression and there is no right or wrong way to express oneself.
My work is a reflection of the beautiful chaos that exists within each of us, in my most recent collection, I channeled that chaos into a series of bright, bold, and emotion-evoking pieces. Each work is a window into my soul, and an invitation to connect with the raw emotion that drives my artistic expression.
Through my use of mixed media, I create a textured and multidimensional canvas that mirrors the layers of human emotion.
I draw inspiration from the world around me, but ultimately, my work is a reflection of my own inner landscape. Through my art, I am able to explore my own vulnerabilities and share them with the world, creating a space for vulnerability and authentic connection.
