Artist Statement:
I began painting at the age of nine when I received my first set of oil paints for Christmas. My Mother encouraged me to pursue my artistic dreams and I received my first award when Mom entered one of my abstract paintings in a local art show. Since that time, I have pursued a self-directed education in art by enrolling in classes and workshops, visiting museums, reading art books, and most importantly, painting on a weekly basis. Lively, effervescent color rhythmically pulsates through my paintings. I begin each composition with a particular hue or design and then let the materials and concept guide my process to produce unique, textured canvases. Primarily focusing on flora as a subject, I transform everyday flowers into painterly visual poems. I embrace mixed media techniques and material to accumulate the abstract quality of my works. I like to think my work hovers gracefully between abstraction and representation. Elegant and independent, I have been told my paintings exude a sense of peace and joy. If my work can bring a moment of happiness to the viewer, then I feel I've accomplished something worthwhile. I am always looking for that inner expression to make its presence felt in my work.
