Artist Statement:
melissaAnne COLORS Photography by Melissa McClain is photography going beyond the traditional. It is seeing the world in a different way, seeing beauty and inspiration in the unexpected. During a trip to Iceland, I took a picture of the bottom of an old, wooden boat. The colors and textures intrigued me and there was a sense of making something new and beautiful out of something worn and weathered.
That one unexpected photo moment inspired the melissaAnne Colors Collection. I loved the character in that initial image and have been scouring boat yards, city streets, and waterways ever since for unusual photo opportunities.
The melissaAnne Colors Collection is close up photography of things like boat bottoms and walls of graffiti and artistic interpretations of water reflections. The Collection includes Water Colors, Urban Colors, and Reflection Colors. The images often appear as paintings but are abstract photographs that turn the ordinary into art through my camera lens.
When creating my work I look for interesting colors, patterns, and textures that will create a surprise in the final photo. The human and natural interaction to create “hidden” art intrigues me. Colors Collection images are available as prints on eco-friendly, sugar cane and cotton rag fine art paper and gallery wrapped canvas.
My photography and designs are about sharing the energy of color, expanding the imagination, sparking creativity, and appreciating the treasures waiting to be found in the world around us.
