Jamel Sghaier

I am Jamel Sghaier born in Tunis and already twelve years now working and living as artist in Germany my second home .After I was graduated from high school as officer of merchant marine I began to travel around the worId. I was always been attracted by the see, and large open spaces in general.I have often on the ship drew and painted on the outdated nautical charts and from 1986 I began to show regularly my works in Tunis and after that internationally. I had a figurative period in my work becoming by the time more geometrical and minimalist.
My experience of art is an existential opportunity of questionning matter and the act of doing something from it.For me the work of art is the result of a meditative process and it is also an answer to the question<what is the pure doing from what I have here and now?>. I find that forms and colours can be expressive by themselves in a very personel and creative way,and they can be meaningful in building my art without the need of outside references in nature.
the most important things for me are personal authenticity and truthfulness.

Every style of art can give me something and enrich my concept of my own art, but abstraction in art still giving a lot for me.
Constructivism in art and architecture ,the concrete art that still very actual ,the adventure of minimalism and conceptual art too.
Mondrian ,Malevitch,ad Reinhardt,Franz Kupka,Matisse and many others are for me like brothers in art.
