Artist Statement:
Abderrahim El ASRAOUI lives in Montreal. A graduate in engineering, he worked as an engineer in industry for several years and made a great turn towards painting to devote himself to it full time. His works are exhibited and admired by a wide audience both in Canada and abroad. He discovered painting and drawing at an early age. My painting is an extension towards people to serve as a bridge between nature, the artist and the viewer. It is through colors and light that I try to reach the souls of people to share the wonders of my works. My work appears as a break from impressionism, in particular in a still and timeless landscape, especially for Mediterranean architecture. In works where reality is only a pretext, we perceive a tendency to abstraction which is accentuated in the geometric treatment of the subject. I freely practice the oppositions between rigor and lyricism, stability and movement, accuracy and distortion. I deepened the search for a completely autonomous pictorial space through some major themes: the landscapes of the mountainous region of the Middle Atlas of Beni Mellal in Morocco, also wonderful landscapes of England and traditional Moroccan architecture.
